Youth Transition Support
Starting a new life in a new country is a challenge. Young refugees and vulnerable migrants often need extra help and support to become and stay connected in their new community.

Youth Transition Support (YTS) is a $22.1 million pilot that helps young humanitarian entrants and vulnerable migrants aged 15 – 25 to participate in work and education.
The pilot improves workplace readiness, provides access to vocational opportunities, and creates strong social connections through education and sports engagement.

Service providers deliver a range of projects and activities for participants, including connections with local employment services and jobs, and vocational or other further education opportunities.

locations and providers
The pilot is delivered by six service providers in 16 Local Government Areas in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria:

3- Foundation House and the Brotherhood of St Laurence are delivering the pilot in select locations in Melbourne, Victoria.
The areas selected for the pilot have high numbers of refugees and vulnerable migrants, and each provider is partnering with schools, TAFEs, universities, and other community and sporting organisations in their local area.

The Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network (MYAN) is providing advice and guidance to providers.
Service duration
The pilot was scheduled to run from 1 January 2016 until 30 June 2017.
Additional funding was allocated to six service providers to maintain select services until 30 June 2018. This funding ensures continuity of services for the vulnerable clients receiving YTS services.

Evaluation
The pilot is being monitored and evaluated to help inform future service delivery.
Learnings from the pilot will be shared with other settlement services, including DSS’ Settlement Grants program, so that young humanitarian entrants and migrants across the country can be supported in their transition into work and the broader Australian community.
